At the beginning of 1800, some studies started about the possible construction of a railroad that was supposed to go from Turin to Savona. In 1861, by Royal Decree, the plan was approved. The construction works started in time, but between problems of financial nature, terrain conditions and continues changes of ownership of the society responsible of the construction plan, the placements of the tracks has been delayed till September 28, 1874.
The 4th November 1994, a flood created enormous damage to the railway line. The cost to restore it was prohibitive.Shortly afterwards, the route closed permanently to be never restored again. Currently, there are rumors about a possible conversion of the old railroad in a bike path.
